Is it the same exact engine?
Got offered a Polaris Predator 450 rfs engine for 400 usd.
A great deal if its a easy swap.

The Predator is a good machine, has its weaknesses like anything else, and the Fuji engine can be made to scream. They are solid play machines, maybe not for the serious racer. Widen and drop them just a little and they handle pretty darn good.
But you are right about the fact that the Predator did not come with a 450 engine or a KTM engine of any kind. They only came with the Fuji 500.

Yes. as long as it is the S model Outlaw or the MXR and not the IRS, the engine is the same. The engines out of the IRS models had different engine mount locations. All parts off the engines will all interchange between the KTM XC and the Outlaws, only the engine cases on the Outlaw IRS were different.

The Polaris "Outlaws" came with the KTM engines. The Predators were replaced by the Outlaws. If it is a 450 out of one of those it is KTM.

Polaris did make some factory 440 or 450 kits to put on the 500 Predators back in the day to make them race legal in the production 450 classes. They were very limited numbers so I doubt that is what it is, but anything is possible.

Yes sir. There is always something new and better coming out. That doesn't mean that what it replaced was junk. Just means that technology rolls on. You look at the resale on the Predators and it is surprisingly good. KTM is even better, as it should be,they are more advanced and better machines. There are a lot of guys out there that can make a really good machine out of almost anything. So, even tho there are several brands that I might not choose or like that much, I would never say that there is nothing good about them. The second that you say something like that, there will be one that will kick your ass. They are all fun!!!

Let's stick to the topic here.
My 2nd response was to the photo Fenrisulvin posted. SEE POST #9
Originally "He" said he was offered a Predator 450 RFS engine and I ORIGINALLY told him they did not come with the RFS, BUT someone may have put one in it. SEE POST #2
Then, after he CLARIFIED and posted the MAGIC photo I commented SEE POST #9
No fuss, he's gotten the info he needs.

I didn't say BRAND. I said PREDATOR.
Fine, you say what you want about a bike and I'll say what I want about one. The second a Predator kicks your ass on a KTM is the second I'll say it should have. It's your fault not the bikes.
I like sharks but I wouldn't swim with them.

In 2006 Polaris made an Outlaw 500 and Predator 500; neither had a KTM engine.
In 2007 Polaris made a Predator 500, an Outlaw 500 neither with a KTM engine again, and an Outlaw 525 IRS with the RFS engine.
In 2008 Polaris made an Outlaw 525 S, 450 MXR, and an Outlaw 525 IRS ALL with the RFS.
2009 SAME Roster with upgrades.
2010 SAME
2011 525 IRS ONLY
2012 NO MORE
So what was dropped and when? I thought.
To resale, all the above Polaris can be purchased CHEAP.
And yes, they are fun. Some models more than others. And I'm talking about ALL 4 wheelers.
To end, I think the Polaris 525 S, 450 MXR, and 525 IRS ARE BETTER THAN ANY PREDATOR and I say this ONLY because of the "powerplant" but I'm happy for anyone that has one. I LOVE KTM.

So I am picking up a KTM 525 next week. My plan was to switch the Motors with my 525 IRS Outlaw which is now a 570. Are you saying it won't work?
I also wanted to switch over the carbs because mine is bored out to 41.5. The Polaris has a throttle positioning sensor on the carb, will that switch over or how can I defeat that obstacle?

I thought I read somewhere that just the 2008 irs motor mounting was different. In 09 and up motors where the same between all outlaws.

To sheriff525

Congrats on your KTM. The Polaris 525 IRS/570 should be plenty stout.
Unfortunately it WILL NOT FIT into your KTM. The case and mounting points are TOO DIFFERENT.
The Outlaw IRS engine only fits the Outlaw IRS.

You can switch out the cylinders on both though. That's the only difference between the KTM 525XC and the Outlaw 570.
If the 570 has port/cam just switch the head along with the cylinder.

That too bad. I had thumper racing do the engine work and they upgraded/modified the crankshaft bearing as well. Maybe I will just settle with the 525 again and not worry about switching everything over. Thats the worst news ever tho. THANKS

If you put the 570 top end on the KTM change the carb too. You may have to do a little tuning/jetting because the intakes are different.
I you are mechanically inclined or have a mechanic friend you COULD swap the internals (crank). They will interchange.

The 09 IRS is same as straight axle but 2008 and earlier are like in the pic
