I changed my rear spring rate to a 5.6 lowered to 7 1/4
I sent it to c&d. There going to do a dual rate conversion. Should lower seat height app. 2".
I'll let everyone know what it's like when I get it back in 3 weeks.
So how is the suspension (in general) setup from the factory? Are you for the most part satisfied with how it feels or are you guys finding that a revalve/respring is needed?

mostly respring pretty stiff from factory, mainly need to get ride height lowered then factory valving might be to your liking I revalved mine I like riding on clouds LOL can't do to much big air now but in xc there isn't much anyway. takes all the rough stuff like a dream.

thats cool, I've heard a lot of good about the Olhins. I suppose it was to be expected that the Stock setup would be kind of stiff because they need to make it fit so many different people.

A revalve is cheaper than having to buy all new shocks.

front and rear shocks have to much low speed compression / rebound, this causes a harsh ride in the front and causes skipping in the rear. A revalve is defintely needed, whats annoying is that teh factory could get this right from the get go, it's simply a case of altering the shim stacks. Whats the point of 20 clicks off adjustment is the lightest settings are still to harsh...........

Rear end rides arse high, creates an uneasy sensation over jumps and drop off's, rear spring is a bit stiff and really needs to be a dual rate to get the ride height down and make it more supple in it's action. GT thunder has a full front rear package for $740 that will apparently cure all issues.
very good post Kiwi. thanks for the explanation.

Good info!
I'm preparing a detailed appraisal for KTM New Zealand on what Joe Average racer would like to see changed from the factory, they are especially interested in things that would be cost neutral, like altered shock damping specs, a lighter rear spring rate, moving the carb mounting clamps around so you can get at them without having to remove the body plastic etc etc,

and things thats are minor changes but would make living with the quad a lot easier (better gear lever, bigger push button in the gas cap, etc.

Third tier items are bigger changes to improve "race ready" capability: better muffler system stock, dual rate rear spring set up with ride height adjustment, tripple rate front springs with ride height adjustment, race engine Kit (piston / cam / differnt muffler insert - centre section / jet kit / dual position ignition switch).

They are taking this seriuosly so who know maybe tthere will be an upspec XC soon

Palo Verde in Arizona did mine much cheaper . Its day and night differance. I had been ridin Elka, but after redoing Ohlins much more happy with them than Elka. All I was saying getting it lowered might make it better for some people. They are way harsh stock but still better than everyone elses stock set up

see the ohlins post, there is alot more going on than a simple revalve.............
