I run 100% in the sand at winchester bay oregon. I would like to extend my swing arm but have not done one or heard much about the goods/bads, how much to do and where the best please to buy the swing arm and have the shock revalved and springed. Does anyone have any experience with this.

I am just playing, hill climping and would like to keep the tires on the ground.

Thanks Rich

Welcome to the forums. I'm sure you'll enjoy this site as much as I have. I live in Oregon also but I've been going to spinreel and Florence, I've yet to try Winchester. I've heard the Dunes are pretty tall there. I'm sure I'll be giving it a try sooner or later. How many times have you road there? Do you prefer it over the other sites or is it the only place you've been so far?
Btw KBR is Kyle Baldwin racing, you can find his link at the top of the page.

KBR can make you anything you want i am going 2" over because I like to jump and trail ride...
With 2" over will you have to respring and revalve your shock? I am hoping to find someone that has gone to the extended swing arm. Not sure if 2" is enough or 6" is too much. When are you doing yours?

Thanks for the KBR info. I talked to them on thursday about redoing my shock but did not know they did swing arms. I will call them back on monday. Winchester is the main place I ride, about once a month. Good hills, trails and camping. I have been to most of the places from coosbay to florence but end up going back to Winchester. I like the hill climbs at Winchester as they are longer. Most of the other dunes are flatter with some climbs but short. Winchester is big enough that it never feels crowded either. You need to try it. Works great with the 525. With the winter wind some of the hills are almost tooooooo steep this year. Hence the longer swing arm. Just cant decide on how much to add.

Wondered if anyone had any more info on preference of swing arms. I mostly ride dunes these days and if i can get the motor back in Ill have a 540 with head work, 8/06cam, 41mm carb etc... I dont want to ruin my ability to ride the trail here and there... Im mainly just play riding as opposed to drag racing. I just remember my ol raptor 660 and how it always felt like i was gonna go over backward on a hill cause of the torque...

Megacab, you happy with the 4"?

Oh and im running 8pdle sand stars, was thinking of getting the Edge...

I had almost the same set up as you with the 540, the difference was I just ran with the stock 39mm carb. I loved the stock swing arm with that set up, it just made the front end seem like it was on a magic carpet while riding in Glamis and going up those dunes. I also ran the Hauler sand tires. I now have the 600 B.B. with lots of go fasters, and still running the stock swing arm. I'm leaning towards the 2" or maybe possibly 3" but I don't have enough information yet. Be careful on the swing arm lengths with these kTm's. You will get to long in a hurry and then it is nothing more than a wheel spinning non turning POS. These bikes are set up a lot different than the JAP CRAP out there. So please do your home work before you spend your hard earned dollar on something that will not work.

Id stick with +3-4 and no bigger. I would personally do +4 with some 12 paddle 22x11x8 glider or 9 paddle hauler. That setup would be perfect. If I build a xc like my plan thats what it will have.

Good to hear that it will still be enjoyable in the meantime. Ill have to ride it for a while and see how it goes. My girlfriend would flip is she heard I was dropping another $600 after having just gotten the motor done. But that would deffinatly be the only other thing I did. And then theres suspension.... And maybe an Oil Cooler... and maybe the HID light.... OK maybe what she doesnt know wont hurt her..... :)

4" was perfect. I have 22x11x10 scat trak extremes with 10 paddles. Never had a problem with the trails and is a huge difference with hill climping. It is the difference between feet hooked on pegs and streched out over the bars going up a hill or sitting on the seat. I bought a 4" extended swing for my GF bike I like it so much.

THanks for the info. Pretty tempted to have the revalve done, whats he charge for the basic? Might have to wait to recover from the motor cost though. Also If I had the shocks revalved, would I have to do it again if I got a swing arm later on?
