KTM 450 engine swap?

I was curious if anyone was else was thinking about an engine swap to introduce E.F.I. to the bike and eliminate the issue of parts not being necessarily readily available. I was thinking about putting an engine and wiring harness from a FC450 or 450SXF 2016 or newer. The only issue I can think of is engine fitment and the lack of a fuel pump. Does anyone have any ideas or measurements from a new 450 dirt bike? I have some close approximations from measuring a new one at the stealership. I contacted IMS to see if they would build a tank with a pump installed and they declined. Any leads on other contacts for an original looking tank with some better inserts and a fuel pump ready to go? If this is a terrible idea please say so, I'm not looking to cut up the frame.

I would LOVE to have the newer generation EFI 450 in my quad. 65hp on pump gas, no jetting hassles, and the traction control would be fantastic in slick conditions. I've threatened to pull the engine out of my Husqvarna FX450.

Other than making a custom aluminum fuel tank I don't thing there is a viable option for an in-tank fuel pump. I would think there's some type of external, frame mounted pump that could be used. Tracking it down would be the trick.

Possibly, but probably not until next week. I'm currently wrapped up in another project and my FX has the bigger XC fuel tank covering the top part of the engine so I'd have to pull it to get anything close to an accurate measurement. I think the newest generation has a slightly shorter head on it than the 2016-2018 engines, but finding a donor motor that new might not be as economical. Daryl Rath has swapped two of these engines into Yamaha chassis. Might be worth a call or email to him to pick his brain about the fuel pump situation and if there's anything a guy really has to watch out for other than the obvious fitting of the engine, intake, and exhaust.
