DON"T DO IT!

I finally got around to fitting mine last night & it doesn't fit.
It is designed to fit the bikes that have a rubber gasket fitted to the air box.
The shape is close, but there is no way without major mods that it will mount up.

Damn

can you post pictures of the fit problem.

We have used a dirt bike foam filter okay but they have plenty of give to form a seal ????

What about a sponge rubber gasket that will deform to conform to the airfilter shape.

I've been using the bike filters as well.
I have just packed the bike up for a race this weekend, so I won't be able to get pictures untill next week.
The problem is that the mounting system that comes with the filter is designed to fit into a rubber boot that is on the bikes.
The ATV doesn't have this, thus has no way of mounting.
I didn't think about trying it the same way the filters are mounted now before I packed it up.
I'll take the K&N with me for the weekend & see what I come up with.

Thanks for clearing that up...let us know if you figure out a solution.

Has anyone put this K&N filter on a KTM quad?

http://www.knfilters.com/news/news.aspx?ID=1233
I called K&N today (4/21) and they said they don't make one--yet. They put me on a list and said they will notify me via email when they are ready. They came out with one for the LTR 450 pretty quick, so hopefully it will be out soon. I know this motor has a lot of potential, but it feels like it needs to breath (and exhale) more freely.

You aint never lied there. If you take this thing out in the sand a true seat of the pants dyno you can feel it. There is just something that feels like it is restricting this engine from its full potential (flow). Whether it needs a cam, head porting, carb boring, or a combination of the above I din't know. Hopefully one of these engine builders will find the sweet spot that it needs and let us all know

Got the better of me last night & I had to pull the bike out & have another look at the filter.

This is what you have to fit the filter to.
As you can see there is nothing but a hole.

This is the backing plate that comes with the kit. It is designed to go under the rubber flange that is on the KTM bikes.

These are the 2 halves of the mounting system. They bolt together with the rubber gasket on the bikes between them.

I think I have worked out how to mount it.
If I bolt the filter mounting plate on through the intake lid with some small countersunk screws & use a sealer under the plate it should work perfectly.
The mounting plate for the filter gets good coverage over the intake.

Filter seals to the mounting plate.
I will give it a go next week & let you know the outcome.

I just got back from the dunes running the K&N the whole trip will take some photos tomorrow of the setup as I pull the seat off, but I sealed it really well with grease. Will all look at the results. Crawfish were excellent as well as the cold beer!!! Had a few Cajun Tamales also...OK here's the K&N results...I installed it as per the instructions...added extra K&N filter grease everywhere I thought it would require additional grease as i had plenty from other installations..
