its funny that you bring up lawnmowers.
even in the power equipment field, about 90% of major $$ repairs are due to lack of maint/abuse.
i have had customers come in b^tching up a storm, saying they will never buy that brand again, an never going to buy from my company again...
well, when it comes down to it, and they calm down, and then we explain to them that the unit has 1000 hours on it, original hydro fluid that was supposed to be changed @first 100 hrs, then again at 500.... and that the control shocks are bad, and that they customer said last time it was in they would replace them, but didnt.... and the oil in the engine is like tar, and about a quart low.... normally about that time they calm down a lil.
i cant honestly say that i have ever gone over 10 hours without changing the oil in any of my bikes/quads that i have had, i used to change every ride weekend, which i know is excessive, but i do plan on gettin an hourmeter on its way here soon.
and looking back, between july 2000 and 2001 season, i only put 440 miles on my last brand new bike, and then have about 40 hrs on my 400ex, only about 10-15 of which was done after building the hell outta it.
what can i say, i only trail ride, and figure 3-5 weekends a summer, then it snows... about 3-6 hours a weekend, average ride being about 50 miles... longest ride i have ever gone on was on my wr... hillman, got lost, was following someone, then got caught in cross traffic, spend hours and an entire wr (big) tank full of half wfo throttle, got back on track and reached buds cabin about 7-10 minutes after hitting reserve... that was close, about 80 miles that was.
