yes you definitely need an orv. There like 16 bucks, but at least a 100 dollar ticket if cought with out one. They sell them at meijer, dunhams, any out door place, you need your drivers licence.

Yes, you will need a ORV trail permit to ride your quad anywhere in Michigan. They cost $16.25 each and are good for a year.

As 450 speed said, they can be bought just about anywhere that caters to the outdoor recreation crowd. Any place that sells hunting licenses with have them. I also believe that if you look on the DNR's web site there is a link where you can buy them thru the mail, if there is time. But you best bet would be to just call a motorsports dealership local to where you are staying and ask if they sell them there.

Also be sure that you have a working spark arrester on your quad. They are required to be used here in Michigan and being caught without one on the trails will get you a nice fine!!

there is a little town north of where you are going to be staying called twin lake. I think with in a hour. It is one of the best trail I have ever ridden. It is part of the national forest and you will need a dnr sticker. It is about 25 miles and all tight woods. look on a map for muskegon and twin lake is east of there.
