    Anybody had this problem.....

Just bought a new leftover 09 505... Rode it for the first time last Saturday, and put right at 7 hours on it.... At the end of the day, my buddy and I were playing around on a TT track when all of a sudden all my friends were waving me over.. When I got there they told me bike was spewing blue smoke... Shut it off and checked everything.. Oil was good, Air filter wasn't that bad.... Started it back up and didn't see any smoke.... Idled it around the track and still no smoke... Rode it hard for two laps, an it puffed just a wisp of smoke one time.... Got it home and talked to a friend who said that those engines are famous for building up pressure in the crankcase, which forces oil into the carb making it run VERY rich... He said that if I could put my finger in the exhaust and it didn't come out oily that everything was fine, which was the case..... Anybody else hear of this issue????

if it was coolant it would have kept doing it so i would also agree with oil. sight glass things are never really very reliable.

I just bought a new 09 XC last month and when it arrived new in the crate the oil was full to the top of the sight glass. I had to drain a lot of oil out before starting it up.

Thanks for all the replies... After reading this and reading some other threads on here, that would seem to be the issue, THANK GOD, but why didn't it do that right when I started riding that morning??? This didn't happen til I put 7 hours on it.....

These things are kind of finicky about certain things. I was riding mine all day once at the track when it had about 5 hours on it with no smoke until I almost killed it sliding too far sideways into a corner. I just slipped the clutch enough to save it and kept going. When I came around and stopped the guys that were sitting there stopped me and said it blew out a big puff of white smoke when I went through that corner. If you lug them down to the point of almost killing them and then rev up again something in the motor flings oil right up through the crankcase breather for some reason. Mine will also do it if I kill it going up a ramp into the back of my truck. And if it is cold out, like freezing or below, garanteed to blow smoke when I start it!

Mine used to smoke like that also before I changed the factory oil, but once I changed the oil the first time it hasn't done it since, I always make sure to let my bike sit and drain very well, I tip it in every direction to get all the old oil out, and put exactly 2L in it when I refill it...haven't had it smoke since it had the factory fill in it.

This is how full mine was when I took it out of the crate. I checked the manual and it says it's supposed to be at the bottom of the window when cold.
