    Your not talking about the gear that is behind the flywheel against the crankcase but the gear that is up above the flywheel by starter with the big nut on it right...

    you have to take the fly wheel off then the gear for the starter.

    Yes you can use a flat piece of metal to ensure they are level as well I believe. There is another issue that needs to be addressed before this beast will start...

    sure if you are just checking, if you are replacing or removing the sprocket you should be using something to lock the cam in place. it can be as simple as a chunk of bar stock with some holes drilled in it.

    Turned out it was the drive gear loosened off timing on and bike is running good... If the balancer shaft for the water pump is off a tooth or two will it cause the bike to overheat? It could just be working the air out of the system but it has a big gurgle when bike is shutdown and the overflow hose seems to be leaking quite a bit... Let me know your thoughts...

    No but you can junk out the case To get the air out pick up the front of the quad about 20 degrees then refill
