Expansion tank on sx - mx motos

HI all, rebuilding my 505 and just thinking does the sx really need the coolant expansion bottle, mine's an 09 and didn't come with one but I put one on it from the 525 parts list.

I don't think it really does anything as i've often seen the coolant level in the rad down about an inch after 2 days racing and the level in the expansion tank still at the upper mark.


Whats your opinions, done anyone else have the expansion bottle on a sx.

I remove the expansion tank on my sx's because my battery is there... It's not needed but if you remove it I recomend checking your coolant levels often. The tank gives a place for excess fuild to go when it gets hot and expands, the idea is when the fluid cools off it will draw a vacuum and suck fluid from the expansion tank back into the radiator. running an inch low on fluid is no big deal.

I am adding one to mine because when I am running it hard it is spitting coolant all over my boot and nerf bar...

I have a overflow bottle on my 505 and I consistantly see the radiator down about 3/4" when I check it. House-if it is spitting out that much coolant you may have a head gasket going south on you.
