    Engine rebuild

Does anyone have a ball park guess on how much a rebuild runs? I was thinking rod and crank bearinigs, rings piston, and head rebuild. Any info would be awesome.

I will probably order the parts myself as much as possible but I will probably have someone else do it just because of the lack of tools and a place to do it. I don't have a garage. ha ha

In the middle of a sx rebuild myself at the minute. It got a full rebuild last year. This time giving it new piston rings, 3 oil pumps, new clutch plates, need a gasket set, couple of camshaft oil jets(ones partially blocked), new timing chain, tensioner and guides, might send the head to get checked over, then your oil and oil filter your into fare few hundard $.

But thats the joys of keeping a sx motor running, plus better to spend a few hundard $ now than 1000's in the middle of the year on a siezed motor to a broken oil pump or something silly

The parts cost doesn't really bother me. I can usually find some pretty good deals on stuff. Plus I plan on doing the 6 mods that was in the sx forum. I mainly more concerned about how much the labr cost will be with something like that. I took a beating on my Suzuki with labor costs but it also was a blown engine. This engine still runs fine, I just want to get it rebuilt to make sure that it doesn't go boom. ha ha

Nothing huh? ha ha i guess I will just try to call the dealer from here (Afghanistan). ha ha What do you suggest is the best way to go with making my 450 a 505? I am tired of paying for race fuel since my 450 has a 13.5:1 piston but I don't want to lose too much power. What do you guys suggest?

You are going to need a different cylinder (or have yours bored and replated), the piston, and since the piston pin is a diferent size you will also need a different crank or change the connecting rod on your existing crank if the big end bearings are the same size. It sounds like the pro-x connecting rod bearings are the way to go, I would have millennium technologies do the cylinder, and the stock piston for reliability. I have been running CP pistons in my 505 without any piston issues, but i have a 13.5:1 in mine so it has been puking out the head gaskets at 25 hours. But it keeps my top end fresh since I replace the piston at the same time as the head gasket.

What do you guys suggest for cams? I am taking the 450 to a ProX 505 piston kit, ProX 505 connecting rod, TR 505 cylinder resleeve. Like I said I had a 13.5:1 450 piston and I want to be able to run pump gas but I want to salvage as much power as possible. So I thought about trying to squeeze some power out of a good cam set. Any suggestions.

Also, I am finding out that this swap is going to be a little more than I might want to spend. Next route, what is the highest compression I can run off of pump gas? Who makes the best piston for this?

I was told the highest compresion you can run on pump gas is the stock 12.5:1.
About the piston lot of members here say the stock one is the best. but is priced like $400...

im sure plenty of guys will chime on what is the best cam for you.

i love the stock piston, got about 40 hours out my last one and it still looked good - would consider just re ringing it. my cp 13.5 was toast after 35 hours. i have a cylinder away being machined to make the stock piston about 13.2:1 compression.

yup stock piston is the best for longevity.

best bang for your buck would be to get Dustin Swartfager or DRG to work your head, talk to Mickley (dustin swartfager head) or KTM Bill (DRG head), good power gains with stock cams btw. Crower cam intake gives a good boost in mid range grunt, webs are more top end focused, both are damn expensive.

Dirt bike CDI gives a good power boost, vortex CDI adds more again on the low end - mid range

and like everyone will tell ya, gotta have KTM Bill's exhaust, best exhaust - HP out there
