    e85?

I was just curious but has anyone tried using e85 in place of VP u4.2 or 4.4 or even pump gas for that matter?

I did...made allot better low end and mid range than u4.4 (2-3hp) the same peak power and then lost top end (3-4hp). I think you could keep those gains to the rev limiter if you messed with the jetting more and found a way to keep the fcr carb from getting rich as the bike revs.

Did it do any thing to the seals and hoses like Ive heard about on cars if they are not flex fuel?

no...e85 isn't that bad on seals and stuff... it's not near as bad as methanol. you need to have a powerjet installed in your carb for it to work. without the power jet you can't get enough fuel to motor (e85 takes 30% more fuel than race gas). I have a carb that has the power jet installed that i would trade you for your stock carb plus $100(I dont need this carb because i found out i'm not aloud to run e85 at the nationals). I can help you with setup too if you need.

Thanks but I don't actually run race gas but i was looking to get a higher compression piston but since race gas is so expensive i was looking for an alternative

no matter what you run now if you wanna run e85 you need a power jet installed in your carb in order to get enough fuel. I tried to run without it and it runs dangerously lean no matter what you do (I tried a 220 main with the hrc needle and i was still way too lean from 4k-9k). It worked but when i put the air fuel meter on my exhaust it had me at over 14:1 ratio which can ruin a motor if ran for very long. the great thing about my carb is I can switched back to race fuel by just turning the knob all the way in which closes the power jet and changing my pilot from a 60 back to a 42. I dont need the e85 option anymore so I thought you might be interested in a trade.

How much hp did you gain using u4.4? Was it the oxygenated fuel? I heard you gain around 3 to 5hp

I'm fairly certain that all u4.4 is oxygenated. They say that's where the major power increase comes from.

u4.4 is good for about 2 hp... but i ran about 15 gallons through my race bike this year and when i did my rebuild my head, piston, exhaust ports were covered in carbon. It doesn't burn very clean. The ethanol burns very clean, burns cooler, is allot cheaper and makes more low end torque and hp than u4.4. The only downside is you can't ran it in a AMA sanctioned event and the fcr carb has a tendency to get richer as the quad revs which causes the hp to drop sooner than it should. I have some back to back dyno graphs I will post later of u4.4 vs e85.

That's cool. I only drag race so I don't want low end hp any way I'd rather have it on top. I've been wanting to dyno the u4.4 but it's hard to get here. I'll get some in Tulsa next time I goto dunes.

if someone could take more time on the dyno they could get great top end out of the e85...i couldn't find the time because i was paying $80 an hour for the dyno. When i would lean the bike out it would make really good top end but i lost my bottom end gains.

If mike would like some help hit me up on a PM... I had it running really good on my quad but like i said was forced to switch to race fuel because AMA rules state the fuel used must be petrolium based. I'll try to remember to post my dyno runs tonight. I'm talking 2-3 hp gain and +3ftlbs from 2k rpm to 8k rpm, the same peak power around 9.5k and then losing 1.5hp in the over rev. I'm confident you could maintain those gains to the rev limiter if you could find away to keep the fcr from going rich on top end while keeping a rich bottom end. The best thing e85 did for me though was my motor would run allot cooler... when i switched to e85 and got it jetted right my fan would never run. If anyone wants to try it let me know and i'd be happy to help them out.
