    08 525xc Throttle problems?

I have about had it with my KTM, When I first start my quad I always throw the choke on and it will start right up. When I turn the choke off it will run for about 30 secs to a minute before it dies. why cant it stay running non stop without the choke? plus when i start it and i push the throttle it has poor throttle response. it will kill itself everytime i push the throttle unless the quad is completely warmed up (operating temp) and still when the bike is completely warmed up if its just sitting at idle it will die. what do i need to do to fix these two problems?

Put in a 45 pilot jet. Also you need to get the carb modded for a leak jet. See fastranchero on here for his carb mods
505sx, 43.5 carb, hmf full system, Crower victory cam, DB CDI, Manual Tensioner, Hiflo waterpump, kiwi mod carb spring, ranchero mods for ap & adj leak jet, PEP PB1 all round on xc swinger (lower) & Walsh arms, Axcalibre Axle, Precision Pro damper, Flexxbars, honda throttle, custom relocated battery box, FourWerx hump seat, Quadtech hood525xc, 41 Carb, SX pipe, Hiflo waterpump, kiwi mod carb spring, ranchero mods for ap & leak jet, Rocket Ron Racing WP's on jb arms, Softbars.

Exactly what he said, plus you need to keep a little throttle on it until it warms up. Just a steady fast idle. Don't be revving a cold engine!

I am having the exact same problems so instead of starting a new thread i though i might see if you tried the quoted fix and if so did it help with your problem? The only modification on my quad is a slip on orange FMF pipe. Thanks.

Might be something As simple as turning your idle screw up.

I have played with the idle screw but it doesnt really help the enourmous bog at intial throttle up. It does help keep it running and not just dying. Everytime you try to blurp the throttle it would rather die. If you throttle up fairly slow then it will come up fine. After the RPM's are up it doesnt have problems revving. Mainly just trying to rev up from an idle and hold an idle (engine warmed of course) Thanks.

As I've already said the pilot jet needs to be up'ed to a 45 and you need a leak jet installed as the long AP squirt is drowning your engine. Contact fast64ranchero, send him your Carb and when you get it back you wont know your bike. Either that or do some investigations and work out how to do it yourself. How Driver and I fixed our carbs and Eliminate the Dreadful bog about all the info on why the bog happens and how to fix it is contained in those 2 threads. Get to reading and when you have questikns just ask and we'll help you out. Playing with an idle screw is not going to get you anywhere.

Thanks for the info. I will get in touch with fast64ranchero. Since it was all stock i thought it should do better than it does, thats why i was asking questions instead of looking into modification work. Apperantly stock dont work that great. Thanks again for your advice i will put it to good use.

To me it sounds like your intake boot may be broken. The boot between the carb and head, this is exactly what it acted like when my boot broke, look very carefully as it is hard to detect unless carb is off. Once I replaced boot, bike started working like it's supposed to. I also have the 450 jet setup in mine which has taken away all response issues that have been mentioned in this thread.

i pulled off the carb to verify all the jet size's and to check the boot for any tears. I found no tears or rips but did find a partialy blocked jet. after cleaning it i could get it to start but no real affect on the overall scope of bog/idol problems. Thanks for the input though.

Forgot to mention i took sticko2's advice and contacted fast64ranchero for his help. he has advised some carb work that he agreed to perform. I will post back after that all takes place and let everyone know the results. Thanks for everyones help even though this was not my thread to start with.

you can also tell if your boot is ripped, for example mine was backfiring through the intake and at some points didn't want to start at all...
