    Which is better?!

Im thinking about buying a ktm and i ride a lot of dunes and need a lot of power. I was wondering whether to get the 505sx or 525xc they both have there benefits i guess.

the XC has a lot more low end grunt IMO and it is a LOT less maintenance to deal with. The motors are less prone to problems than the SX motors. And like you said, the XC has reverse which is great.

Yea i have a xc for my practice bike for motocross just because it is cheaper and easier to maintain. you wont get any quick revving snap like the sx has though. I love to ride the xc still though and reverse is great. I raced the xc last year and did need reverse twice...

They are cams from KTM. There is also an 8/06. I compare my 450 xc and yfz as being pretty close power wise. Both have similar mods. The 450 xc is smoother at delivering just a little less overall power. The yfz feels finicky witht he rpm's and is pretty snappy and delivers that similar amount of power really quickly. IN a drag me vs dad I won on both machines by just a little. I don't care for the yfz steering that much. needs a stiff damper setup and it would help a lot. I would take a 525 over yfz any day. no experience on the 525 though it shouldn't feel any different except for power. The sx stock is snappier than a yfz, has more power, and does not have the finicky rpm feeling for me.

they will never be as snappy just because it is a completely different motor. a good start would be high comp. piston. ranchero carb mods. other carb stuff. sx cdi box maybe? on my 450 i like a 15 38 gearing. makes it really close to what the sx has(14 38). there is a post on here somewhere that has them all on it. go to home page of ktmatvhq.com and in the top right there is a search bar. type in ktm cams or something or 8 06 8 33 8 07 and you should find it. it isn;t that old. pry in one of the xc sections either dyno tuning or engine.

8/09 cam isnt anything you could run witha stock motor, valves would hit piston, not to mention they dont have low end like a 8/07. there more for bigger motors, and for wide open throttle.

ranchero carb mods, ktm bill pipe, 8/06 cam for a little more top end. thats if you keep motor stock minus cam. can go all out get high comp. piston, head work, bigger cam, bored carb, bigger cylinder and piston, there are many options.
